| VC FIRE SAFE COUNCIL TIPS OF THE DAY: PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY MACHINERY THAT CAN CAUSE SPARKS FROM 10 am TO 8 pm DURING WARM, DRY and especially BREEZY DAYS! Always carry a small fire extinguisher with you when working out-of-doors. ALL electromechanical equipment will throw sparks! This includes such items as: Weed Trimmers Lawn Mowers Leaf Blowers Chain Saws Pumps Grinders, etc... * Also, target practice with guns, rifles, etc. will easily start a fire! A spark from the gun and from the bullet that ricochets off a rock WILL cause a fire!!!!!! * Don't park a hot car on grass. Mufflers, tailpipes, catalytic converters, etc. all will ignite dry grass. All of the above can easily ignite a fire. Over 80% of our fires are preventable and human made. If you see your neighbor using any of the above, please ask him/her to wait until early morning when it is cool and damp and have a small fire extinguisher handy. Please do not throw cigarettes out of your vehicle's window! If you see someone do so, please jot down the license plate and call: (800) NOSMOKE CHP will issue a warning letter to the vehicle's owner.
